Macau, China, August 11, 2021: The Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China is the first National Olympic Committee to confirm receipt of the official invitation letter to the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in September 2022.
The organising committee of the Hangzhou Asian Games, HAGOC, announced during the 400-day countdown on August 6 that the official invitation letters were being sent out to the Olympic Council of Asia’s 45 NOCs.
Macau, which has competed in the Asian Games since Beijing 1990, was the first to confirm receipt of the invitation letter at their headquarters on Wednesday.
The athletes and officials from Macau, China are looking forward to attending the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou – capital of Zhejiang province in eastern China – from September 10-25, 2022 and adding to their medal tally in the 40 sports and 61 disciplines. They are also looking forward to being a part of such a prestigious international multi-sport event, which is second only to the Olympic Games in terms of number of athletes and infrastructure.
To date, Macau has won two gold medals at the Asian Games, both in wushu, with 11 silver and 20 bronze medals for a total of 33 in eight appearances.
Hangzhou 2022 is encouraging all NOCs to share their news and preparations via photos and videos on their social media accounts to build excitement in their own country or region ahead of the 19th Asian Games. The hashtag is #Hangzhou2022.
The one-year countdown ceremony is fast approaching on September 10 and HAGOC is planning a series of sports and cultural events around this date to promote the Hangzhou Asian Games, which will be the third to be held in China after Beijing 1990 and Guangzhou 2010.
The invitation letter package also included the three Asian Games mascots and other merchandise, as well as the official NOC flag to check Asian Games protocol.
