Tokyo, Japan, August 3, 2021: China’s divers completed their total domination of the 3-metre springboard events at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday afternoon when Xie Siyi won their fourth gold in four attempts at Tokyo Aquatics Centre.

Xie, 25, was a comfortable winner of the men’s 3m springboard final. He amassed 558.75 points for his six dives, well clear of his fellow countryman Wang Zongyuan, 19, who took silver with 534.90.

Jack Laugher of Britain won the bronze with a score of 518.0.

Xie and Wang had teamed up earlier in the meet to win the men’s synchronised 3m springboard, while China had also won both 3m springboard titles in the women’s competition led by double gold medallist Shi Tingmao.

Xie became only the second diver to win the men's 3m springboard and men's synchronised 3m springboard at the same Olympic Games, after Xiong Ni (CHN) in 2000.

The 12-man final ended on an emotional note as Japan's Ken Terauchi received a standing ovation from his fellow competitors after his sixth dive. The 40-year-old Japanese diver was competing in his sixth Olympic Games dating back to Atlanta 1996.
