Manila, Philippines, December 8, 2019: Host nation the Philippines entered the second week of competition at the 30th Southeast Asian Games with a healthy lead in the medals table. The final day of competition is Wednesday, December 11. After seven days of medal competition beginning December 1 following the opening ceremony the previous evening, the Philippines tops the rankings with 89 gold, 67 silver and 65 bronze medals for a total of 221. Indonesia, which hosted the OCA’s 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang in 2018, is second with 50 gold medals, 49 silver and 58 bronze for 157, while 2021 SEA Games hosts Vietnam completes the top three with 45-50-64 (159). Thailand is fourth with 41 gold medals, followed by Singapore with 37 and Malaysia with 36. This completes the “big six” of the SEA region. Myanmar has three gold medals, 2023 SEA Games hosts Cambodia has two and Brunei Darussalam one gold medal. Laos has three silver and 13 bronze for 10th spot and Timor-Leste is at the bottom with zero medals – and their first would bring about one of the biggest cheers of the Games as the local fans have adopted the Timor-Leste athletes as their own as they strive to win a podium place. The 30th SEA Games run from November 30 to December 11 with 56 sports.
