Tokyo, Japan, July 24, 2021: China's Hou Zhihui took the first weightlifting gold of Tokyo 2020 on Saturday, July 24, leading an Asian 1-2-3 in the women's 49kg class at Tokyo International Forum.
Hou, 24, set three Olympic records on her way to gold - 94kg in the snatch, 116kg in clean and jerk and her total lift of 210kg.
"It's different this time than before," Hou told the Chinese media after her triumph. "I used to worry about getting hurt when I was lifting, but this time I was able to invest all in, spare no efforts and leave no regrets. It felt fantastic focusing on nothing but the competition."
India's Mirabai Chanu took the silver with 87-115-202 and Indonesia’s Windy Cantikah Aisah won the bronze medal with 84-110-194.
