Daraz joins hands with Pakistan Olympic Association to support athletes at Tokyo Olympics

Lahore, Pakistan, July 23, 2021: The Pakistan Olympic Associaiton has joined hands with Daraz (Alibaba Group) who will be the Official Digital Partner to uplift the Pakistani athletes taking part in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Daraz, Pakistan’s e-commerce powerhouse, announced its Olympic Games partnership to support the National Olympic Team of Pakistan earlier this month.

POA President Lt. Gen (retd.) Syed Arif Hasan said: “Daraz has always stood to empower the youth of Pakistan and hence, this partnership is a very natural association for us. We are super excited to stand with our national heroes as they represent Pakistan in Tokyo.”

POA Secretary General Muhammad Khalid Mahmood said: “Alibaba is a Top Partner of the International Olympic Committee and Daraz is looking after the interests of Alibaba in Pakistan. We are happy to join hands with an IOC Top Partner.”

Meanwhile POA chief Syed Hasan disclosed that financial assistance of Rs. 100,000 (US$622) has been provided to each athlete in the context of their preparation and participation at the Tokyo Olympics.

Pakistan will be represented by 10 athletes in athletics, badminton, judo, shooting, swimming and weightlifting. Badminton player Mahoor Shahzad and pistol shooter Khalil Akhtar will be Pakistan’s flag bearers at the Opening Ceremony later on Friday, July 23.
