New Delhi, India, July 13, 2021: The President of the Indian Olympic Association, Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra, met with the country’s new Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur, for the first time on Monday, July 12.
In a Facebook post, Dr Batra said: “Had the privilege to meet today with Shri Anurag Thakur, Hon'ble Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs and Hon'ble Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, on 12th July 2021. Hon'ble Minister took charge of the Sports Ministry last week.”
The IOA President and IOC member said that the new Sports Minister was briefed and updated on the preparations of the Indian delegation for Tokyo 2020, the vaccination of the athletes and officials and the travel and accommodation arrangements.
The pair agreed that the excitement of the Olympic Games was building within the country, with the first batch of the contingent due to depart for Japan from Delhi Airport on July 17.
“The Hon'ble Minister was kind enough to request his officers in the Ministry to ensure proper arrangements are made at Delhi Airport for the athletes and officials who leave from Delhi by Air India on 17th July,” added Dr Batra.
Dr Batra presented a memento to the Sports Minister on behalf of Indian Olympic Association in the presence of Mr Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India and Chairman and Managing Director of Spice Jet.
He described the meeting as “very fruitful and productive”.
