Dushanbe, Tajikistan, July 8, 2021: Tajikistan National Olympic Committee has announced that two swimmers will represent the country at the Tokyo Olympics this month after receiving IOC universality invitation slots.
National swimming team members Anastasia Tyurina and Olimjon Ishanov will compete in the 50m freestyle events for women and men respectively. It will be the second Olympic Games for both swimmers as they also participated at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The inclusion of the two swimmers takes the Tajikistan athletes’ delegation to 10 for the Tokyo Olympics. They will participate in four sports – athletics, boxing, judo and swimming.
The athletes are: Gulsumbi Sharipova and Ildar Ahmadiev (athletics); Bahodur Usmonov and Shabbos Negmatulloev (boxing); Somon Mahmadbekov, Akmal Murodov, Komronshoh Ustopiriyon and Temur Rahimov (judo); and swimmers Tyurina and Ishanov.
Tyurina also competed at the 3rd Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018.
