UAE NOC unveils six-strong squad in four sports for Tokyo Olympics

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, July 7, 2021: The United Arab Emirates will be represented by six athletes in four sports – athletics, judo, shooting and swimming - at the Tokyo Olympics this month.

The United Arab Emirates Olympic Committee revealed details of the squad at a press conference held on Tuesday, July 6 at the headquarters of the General Authority of Sport in Dubai.

The conference was attended by Mohamed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the UAE Olympic Committee, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Director of the Department of Technical and Sports Affairs of the NOC, and Omar Abdelrahman Al Ali, Director of Sports Affairs of the General Authority of Sport.

Ahmed Al-Tayeb, who will lead the 18-strong delegation to the Olympics, announced the names of the athletes. 

They are: Fatima Al-Husni (athletics - women’s shot put), Hassan Al-Noubi (athletics – men’s 100m), Ivan Romarenko (judo – men’s 100kg), Victor Skirtov (judo – men’s 73kg), Youssef Al-Matrushi (swimming – men’s 100m freestyle), and Saif bin Fatis (shooting – men’s skeet).

During the press conference, the UAE Olympic Committee also unveiled the uniform of the sports delegation participating at the July 23-August 8 Tokyo Games.
