Kabul, Afghanistan, July 5, 2021: The leadership of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee and Afghan Athletics Federation held a farewell ceremony for two Japan-bound athletes at the NOC headquarters on Sunday, July 4.
Kimia Yousefi and Shah Mahmoud Noorzhi, who will compete in the women’s and men’s 100 meters, respectively, at the Tokyo Olympics, were accompanied by their coaches.
The President of Afghanistan NOC, Dr. Hafizullah Wali Rahimi, and the President of the Afghan Athletics Federation, NOC Vice President-Women and Sport and Member of Parliament Robina Jalali, wished the group all the best as they prepared to head to a 15-day training camp in Omuta City, Fukuoka prefecture, ahead of the Olympics, which open July 23.
“Hoping for more success from the athletes of the country,” said Robina Jalali in a Facebook post.
The team also received the second round of vaccinations against the coronavirus.
