Lahore, Pakistan, June 28, 2021: Lt Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan, President of the Pakistan Olympic Association, has congratulated young weightlifter Talha Talib and judoka Shah Hussain Shah for securing berths at the Tokyo Olympics.
Talib, 21, has received an IOC Tripartite Commission invitation on the request of the Pakistan Olympic Association and will be part of the Pakistan contingent at the Tokyo Olympics next month. It will be his first Olympic Games.
Talib, bronze medallist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, will take part in the men’s -67kg event.
Judoka Shah booked his berth in the men's -100kg category virtue of securing a Continental quota. It will be his second Olympic Games having participated at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
POA President Syed Hasan paid tribute to the parents of both athletes for all their efforts and supporting their sons to achieve this milestone. For Shah, it was a case of following in his father's footsteps - dad Hussain Shah representing Pakistan at the 1988 Seoul Olympics where he won a bronze medal in boxing at middleweight.
With the inclusion of judo and weightlifting, Pakistan will take part in six sports at the July 23-August 8 Tokyo Games. The other sports are athletics, badminton, shooting and swimming.
