Phnom Penh, Cambodia, June 23, 2021: The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) organised an athlete-focused celebration of Olympic Day on June 23.
The theme of the activity was “Home Exercise with Athletes” and it was conducted online with Cambodian athletes and Olympians.
The event will also help the NOCC promote the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games that will be hosted in Phnom Penh in 2023.
The NOC of Cambodia and the SEA Games organising committee CAMSOC view the two games as not only national and regional events but also a way to attract the world to the “Kingdom of Wonder”.
Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the NOC and CAMSOC, said the promotional push had come with the full support of Dr Thong Khon, President of the NOC and Minister of Tourism in Cambodia.
“We are taking the opportunity of June 23 – Olympic Day 2021 – to show the importance of the Olympic movement in Cambodia and also to attract the interest of the people in the SEA Games and Para Games in 2023,” he said. “We want to show that everyone is supporting the Olympic movement.”
CAMSOC pointed out that Olympic Day marked 681 days to the opening ceremony of the SEA Games on May 5, 2023.
