Hong Kong, China NOC holds joint celebration

Hong Kong, China, November 25, 2019: The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China organised a “Welcome Home Reception” for the 1st ANOC World Beach Games delegation on November 22 in conjunction with a plaque presentation ceremony. The first ANOC WBG took place in Doha, Qatar from October 12-16 and Grace Lau Mo-sheung won a bronze medal in the women’s karate individual kata. VIPs included Mrs Cherry Tse Ling Kit Ching, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, NOC President Timothy Fok, NOC Secretary General Ronnie Wong and AWBG Chef de Mission Dr Karl Kwok. Certificates and souvenirs were presented to all attending delegation members in recognition of their efforts and contribution during the AWBG. Hong Kong sent five athletes to compete in Aquatics – Swimming (Open Water 5km) and Karatedo (Individual Kata). “All our athletes showed their endeavour and persistence in this inaugural World Beach Games. We hope that they will maintain these good qualities in their future competitions,” said Mr Fok. On the same occasion, Hong Kong NOC presented the commemorative plaques to sports celebrities receiving the 2019 Honour Roll in recognition of their significant contribution to the Hong Kong sports community. Dr. Karl Kwok, Vice President of SF&OC, and Ronnie Wong, Secretary General, were awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Stars while Professor Chung Pak Kwong was appointed Justice of Peace. Moreover, commemorative plaques were also presented to all attending awardees including the athletes from the sports of Boccia, Para Lawn Bowl, Rugby, Squash, Tenpin Bowling, Windsurfing and Wushu in recognition of their outstanding achievements. “We are proud of these excellent role models who showcase the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect to our city,” added Mr Fok. To conclude, the Federation would like to thank all the supporting organisations and sponsors to the Hong Kong, China delegation to the 1st ANOC World Beach Games, including Home Affairs Bureau, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Cathay Pacific Airways Limited, FILA Marketing (Hong Kong) Limited and Fitness First (Hong Kong) Limited.
