Bahrain NOC President leads national football team support campaign

Manama, Bahrain, May 31, 2021: The President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, is leading a nationwide campaign in support of the national football team.

The initiative is being conducted under the hashtag “Al Ahmar Can Do It” and is aimed at the upcoming qualifying matches in Bahrain for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

As well as BOC President, HH Shaikh Khalid is also First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) and head of the General Sports Authority.

Under directives from HH Shaikh Khalid, the campaign to cheer the national team will be through conventional media and social media platforms, in light of the mandatory precautionary measures which were announced by the National Medical Taskforce for combating Covid-19.

The General Sports Authority, SYCS and BOC will lead the campaign and be joined by national sports associations, sports clubs, youth centres and the private sector.

The sports authorities will offer all support to the Bahrain Football Federation to help them in their qualifying cause.

Bahrain will host the remaining matches of the Preliminary Round 2 Group C from June 3-15. As things stand, Iraq leads the five-team group with 11 points from five games, followed by Bahrain (9-5), Iran (6-4), Hong Kong (5-5) and Cambodia (1-5).

Bahrain will play Cambodia, Iran and finally Hong Kong at the Bahrain National Stadium in Manama to complete the group.
