Top Uzbekistan NOC officials welcome home taekwondo heroes

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, May 27, 2021: Rustam Shaabdurakhmonov, President of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, and other NOC officials were on hand to welcome the national taekwondo team from their successful mission of winning Olympic berths at last week’s Asian qualifying tournament in Jordan.

Three members of the team who won Olympic berths – Nigora Tursunkulova (women’s -67kg), Svetlana Osipova (women’s +67kg) and Ulugbek Rashitov (men’s -68kg) were greeted on arrival at the capital’s Islam Karimov International Airport by NOC officials on Monday, May 24.

The welcoming party included NOC President Shaabdurakhmonov, Secretary General Oybek Kasimov and Vice President Azizjon Kamilov, representatives of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, relatives and friends of the athletes and fans.

President Shaabdurakhmonov congratulated the successful team and wished the Olympians good luck at the Tokyo Olympics from July 23 to August 8.

Apart from the three athletes who qualified in Jordan, Uzbekistan will have another taekwondo representative in Tokyo – Nikita Rafalovich (men’s -80kg), who qualified through his rankings on the World Taekwondo Federation list. Rafalovich also participated at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
