Kuwait City, Kuwait, May 13, 2021: The Olympic Council of Asia has published a detailed guideline in the fight to prevent competition manipulation in sport.
The document marks a big step forward in confronting and tackling this issue within the Olympic movement and gives the OCA’s 45 National Olympic Committees clear instructions of what to be aware of and how to follow a systematic procedure.
The “OCA Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions (PMC)” has eight chapters including definitions of competition manipulation, violations such as betting or arranging to fix the result of a game, disciplinary procedures, provisional measures and sanctions.
In a circular to the NOCs on May 12, OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam said: “The OCA, in its efforts to best protect the interest of its athletes participating in various Asian Games and provide all the athletes with a fair and equal playing ground and conditions, has developed a ‘Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions (PMC)’.
“These guidelines were duly approved by the OCA Executive Board and will be implemented during the forthcoming Asian Games starting from the Shantou Asian Youth Games.”
The OCA Director General asks the NOCs to share the guidelines with all concerned athletes, officials and other relevant authorities within their country or region to raise awareness of the issues, how to identify the sources and then follow the step-by-step guidelines.
The 3rd Asian Youth Games are due to take place in Shantou, a port city in Guangdong province, from November 20-28, 2021.
