Hong Kong, China, May 12, 2021: Hong Kong’s first Asian Games champion, tenpin bowler Catherine Che Kuk-hung, passed away on Monday at the age of 69.

Che, known simply as Cat, won the women’s singles title at the 10th Asian Games in Seoul in 1986 – eight years after her bronze medal in the same event at Bangkok 1978 when tenpin bowling made its Asian Games debut.

“We all feel sorry to hear about her death,” Vivien Lau Chiang-chu, chairwoman of the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress, told the South China Morning Post.

“Cat had been sick for a while since returning from Canada three years ago and we will all miss her contribution to the sport.”

News of Cat Che’s passing was the headline item of the sports bulletin on TVB News on Tuesday evening.
