Manama, Bahrain, May 9, 2021: Bahraini badminton star Adnan Ibrahim has been named as a global ambassador in the Arab world to promote the Badminton World Federation’s ‘I am badminton’ integrity campaign.

Ibrahim, 22, is among five stars of the Arab badminton world named in last month’s expansion of the BWF campaign to keep the sport clean. The others are: Rana Abu Harbesh (Saudi Arabia), Mohamed Al Zarooni (United Arab Emirates), Shaimaa Samy (Egypt) and Youcef Sabri Medel (Algeria).

The Bahrain Olympic Committee posted on its Facebook page: “The selection of Adnan Ibrahim from among the constellation of Arab stars is considered a gain for Bahraini badminton. His selection comes within the framework of the International Federation’s keenness to expand the campaign and appoint more ambassadors around the world to support this initiative.”

The ‘i am badminton’ integrity campaign has gone from strength to strength during the COVID-19 pandemic with 31 new regional and national ambassadors coming on board across nine languages last month. One of the first to be named, in April 2020, was India’s 2016 Rio Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu.

Ibrahim expressed pride in being picked as a global ambassador. He said: “I will endeavour to consolidate the noble sporting values and play with the aim of winning and playing correctly and legally, avoiding doping, and reporting any case of match-tampering or any suspicious activities.

“I thank the Badminton World Federation for picking me and I look forward to the campaign achieving its goals,” Ibrahim added.
