Phnom Penh, Cambodia, May 5, 2021: Cambodia will send 135 national team athletes in 12 sports for intensive training in China ahead of the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Vietnam this November and the 32nd SEA Games hosted by Cambodia in 2023.
The plan was revealed by Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) and of the Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC). He added that the training would start in August with the financial support of China, the Khmer Times reports.
“The training will be essential for the technical improvement of the Cambodian athletes and for the experience of such an exchange between Cambodian and Chinese athletes,” he said.
It will also help prepare Cambodian athletes for the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam from November 21 to December 2, 2021 in Hanoi and neighboring cities and provinces.
Following this year’s SEA Games, Cambodian athletes will then return to China for intensive training for the 2023 SEA Games in the Kingdom – the first time Cambodia will host the 11-nation regional sports festival since it was established in 1959.
According to Vath Chamroeun, as well as the intensive training in China, Cambodian sports authorities will also send taekwondo athletes for training in South Korea, karate athletes to Japan and vovinam athletes to Vietnam.
