OCA EB member Khunying Patama set to be re-elected BWF Deputy President

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, April 22, 2021: The Badminton World Federation Council Elections will be held at the 82nd BWF virtual Annual General Meeting on May 22, 2021. Candidates were revealed on April 21 in a communication to the BWF Membership.

There is just one nominee each for three positions on the Executive Board: 

BWF President – Poul-Erik Høyer (Denmark)

BWF Deputy President – Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul (Thailand) 

BWF Vice President-Para Badminton – Paul Kurzo (Switzerland). 

Mdm. Khunying is Chair of the OCA Culture Committee, a member of the OCA Executive Board and an IOC Member. She is also President of the Badminton Association of Thailand.

The incumbents for those positions stand to be re-elected unopposed, signalling continuity at the top of the BWF leadership.

There are a further 30 candidates for the remaining 20 Council positions. Elections will be conducted virtually using electronic voting systems.

The 30 candidates include: Bambang (Rudy) Roedyanto (INA), Battushig Batbold (MGL), Himanta Biswa Sarma (IND), Kim Jong Soo (KOR), Zhang Jun (CHN), Kenny Goh Chee Keong (MAS), Kinji Zeniya (JPN), Maria do Carmo Ribeiro Madeira de Carvalho (MAC), Peshtiwan Majeed Nadir (IRQ), Robert Lim Teck Heng (SGP), Rukhshona Narzulloeva (TJK) and Sawsan Haji Mohammed Taqawi (BRN).
