Shantou, China, April 19, 2021: Shantou 2021 has announced the completion of the first competition venue for the 3rd Asian Youth Games this November.
Construction of the Shantou Zhengda Gymnasium has finished and the stadium is now awaiting the final inspection - making it the first completed competition venue for Shantou 2021 Asian Youth Games.
Located in the Waisha section of Shanfen Road, National Highway 324, Shantou Zhengda Gymnasium will serve as the badminton competition venue for the Shantou 2021 AYG.
The project, which started in May 2020, mainly includes the renovation of the original Zhengda Gymnasium, the building of a new multi-sport training centre, outdoor spaces upgrading, road system planning and road network building and fire-resistant capacity improvement including the setting up of two entrance/exits.
The new venue perfectly showcases the idea of modern minimalism, with the newly replaced aluminium façade-cladding and floor.
With a seating capacity of 3,198, including umpire stand and VIP area, the gymnasium also houses multiple functional rooms for athlete preparation, news conference, sport presentation, security, broadcasting and other games operation functional areas.
Outdoor facilities have also witnessed great improvement. With 165 parking spots, including 10 for buses, in place, it has also installed charging poles for electric vehicles.
Meanwhile, the venue is equipped with lifts for spectators with disabilities.
After the final inspection, Shantou Zhengda Gymnasium will be fully geared up for the venue testing and Games preparation.
The OCA’s 3rd AYG will be held in Shantou, a port city in eastern Guangdong province, from November 20-28, 2021 with 18 sports, 21 disciplines and 161 events.
