Tehran, Iran, April 14, 2021: Iranian athletes who will participate at Tokyo 2020 received COVID-19 vaccinations on Tuesday, April 13, in the capital Tehran.

A total of 58 Olympic berths in 12 sports have been secured by Iranian athletes to date - and there are still more spots up for grabs at the July 23-August 8 Games.

The Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Keykavous Saeidi, has expressed satisfaction at the vaccination programme.

“With the valuable follow-up and efforts of the Minister of Sports and Youth and the President of the National Olympic Committee, and the worthy cooperation of the medical and national sports federations, today is the first stage of the vaccination programme for athletes bound for the Tokyo Olympics,” Secretary General Saeidi said.

“The whole process has been very satisfactory and all Iranian athletes bound for the Tokyo Olympics were vaccinated today,” he added.

The second vaccination will be given three to four weeks later.

Paralympians were vaccinated at the headquarters of the Iran Sports Federation for the Disabled last week.
