Hangzhou 2022 confirms breaking venue for 19th Asian Games

Hangzhou, China, April 14, 2021: The new Asian Games sport of breaking will have a new competition venue at Hangzhou 2022, organising committee HAGOC reports.

Breaking was welcomed into the 19th Asian Games sports programme at the OCA General Assembly in Oman last December following a successful appearance at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2018 and its inclusion at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee and Olympic Council of Asia believe that breaking – also known as break dancing – will tap into urban youth culture and prove appealing to a younger generation of sports fans.

There will be two events contested at Hangzhou 2022 – men’s and women’s breaking, which is listed as a discipline under the sport of Dance Sport.

HAGOC has announced that Gongshu Canal Sports Park Gymnasium will host the breaking events during the 19th Asian Games. The same venue will also host table tennis.

The newly built gymnasium has a floor area of 21,500 square metres and a capacity of 6,500 spectators.

The 19th Asian Games will run from September 10-25, 2022 with 40 sports, 61 disciplines and 482 events.
