Bahrain NOC President opens water complex

Manama, Bahrain, April 13, 2021: His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, opened an integrated water complex on Sunday, April 11 at Al Jazayer beach. 

The opening ceremony was attended by Royal Life Saving Bahrain Chairperson Shaikha Najla bint Hamad bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, BOC Secretary General Mohamed Hasan Al-Nusuf and Edamah company CEO Amin Al Arayyed. 

Edamah provided the space for the project to be set up by the Bahrain Olympic Committee and contributed to the completion of the complex.

Bahrain Swimming Association Chairman Mohammed Mejbal and Bahrain Triathlon Federation Chief Abdulla Abdulsalam also attended the opening ceremony.

HH Shaikh Khalid cut the ribbon signaling the opening of the project and toured the milestone which includes an Olympic swimming pool, a semi-Olympic pool and other facilities.

He was briefed about various facilities and services in the water complex, in addition to the method of building the project, which was carried out using tools and parts that can be assembled and transported, totaling 2,613 pieces.

He then attended a girls’ swimming race, which was held in the semi-Olympic pool with the participation of eight swimmers, followed by the boys' race at the Olympic pool which featured eight participants, marking the official launch of the two swimming pools.

He stressed the importance of this vital sports project, the first of its kind in of Bahrain, in line with the vision of His Majesty the King's Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and the Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to transform sports into a professional industry.

The BOC President said the water complex would have a big impact on swimming and water sports in general and would enhance Bahrain's reputation in the regional and international sports arena.
