Sana’a, Yemen, April 7, 2021: Yemen National Olympic Committee sponsored a two-day basketball workshop in the Olympic Centre Hall in the capital Sana’a.
The workshop was for coaches and technical officials of basketball clubs throughout the country and was organised by the Basketball Federation.
A total of 25 coaches and officials from clubs of various levels took part and the topics included the drafting of general regulations for competitions, the national cup tournament and the national team training camp programme.
The Secretary General of Yemen Olympic Committee, Mohamed Abdullah Al-Ahjri, addressed the opening ceremony of the workshop and praised the work of the Basketball Federation. He said the federation had made a great effort to revive basketball in Yemen and that the two-day workshop would increase the profile of the sport and help it to achieve its goals.
Secretary General Al-Ahjri told the participants that sport was a candle to light up the lives of the people and to unify them through friendly competition. He thanked the delegates for travelling from the different governorates to attend the workshop, and this proved the dedication and commitment of the participants to make basketball a success and benefit the game as a whole.
He stressed the importance of setting the wheels of sport in motion and discussing future projects in a spirit of unity and to attract the interest of the public.
In turn, the President of the Basketball Federation, Abdel Sattar Al-Hamdani, praised the interaction of the participants and their efforts to succeed and achieve the goals of the workshop. He thanked the Yemen Olympic Committee for their support and said the committees within the governorates were ready to play their part in the development of basketball.
