Colombo, Sri Lanka, April 7, 2021: The Sri Lanka National Olympic Committee has awarded the Olympic Solidarity Advanced Sport Management Course awards to 19 young men and women.
The awards ceremony was held on Tuesday, April 6 at the Hemasiri Fernando Auditorium of the NOC HQ. The chief guest was Professor R. Rathnayake, Vice Chancellor of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, while Mr. Anurudha Wijekoon, Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, was invited as guest of honour.
Sri Lanka NOC Secretary General Maxwell de Silva underlined the importance of the course, saying: “I am extremely happy for being able to conduct and successfully complete this programme in spite of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic; by doing so, we were actually able to raise the bar of importance of Olympism.”
The NOC’s programme director, B.L.H. Perera, added: “This programme could be seen in different perspectives. First you could put it as the responsibility of the NOC as our mission statement clearly states that we are bound to protect and develop Olympism. In this context, the programme is a very timely event promoted by the international Olympic Solidarity movement where NOCs could benefit by training senior level managers to run sports organisations.”
