Muscat, Oman, March 24, 2021: Oman’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, has set up a new High Performance Sports Committee to boost sports in the Sultanate.

The ministerial decision was made on Tuesday, March 23 and was welcomed by Oman Olympic Committee Secretary General Taha Sulaiman Al-Kishry, who will be part of the new committee which will be chaired by the Sports Minister.

“My sincere gratitude and appreciation to His Highness Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said for issuing the ministerial decision to form a High Performance Committee that will lay the foundations of sports achievement. I hope to give as much as I can to advance Omani sports and our athletes. They deserve it,” posted the NOC Secretary General on his Facebook page.

The move envisages a comprehensive development strategy to be carried out within a fixed timeframe and to contribute to Oman Vision 2040, the Sultanate’s blueprint for growth and progress in the near future.

One of the main components of the ambitious High Performance programme is to identify and groom athletes in various sports, targeting success at Olympic, international and regional competitions.

The High Performance Committee will also include the Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee, Seyed Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, and various key officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.
