World Skate announces skateboarding qualifying events for Tokyo 2020

Lausanne, Switzerland, March 22, 2021: World Skate has announced the restart of the qualification season leading up to Tokyo 2020, when skateboarding will make its Olympic Games debut.

There will be two Olympic qualification point opportunities for each discipline – park and street.

In addition to the points available through these events, direct qualification spots for Tokyo 2020 are awarded to all podium athletes of the World Championships.

Here is the 2021 Skateboarding Olympic Qualification Season calendar:

*May 17-23, Dew Tour, city to be confirmed, Street and Park Pro Tour

*May 31-June 6, Street World Championships, Rome (ITA)

*June 14-20, Park World Championships, city to be confirmed.

The qualification system runs from January 1, 2019 to June 29, 2021 and comprises two events for men and women in both street and park. 

There will be a total of 80 skateboarding athletes in Tokyo – 40 men and 40 women – with 38 qualification places on offer plus two for the host country Japan.

A maximum of 12 athletes from one National Olympic Committee is permitted – three in each of the four disciplines.
