Afghanistan NOC, taekwondo federation greet Korean ambassador

Kabul, Afghanistan, March 17, 2021: The leadership of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee and Afghanistan Taekwondo Federation met with the Korean Ambassador to Afghanistan in Kabul on Tuesday, March 16.

NOC President Dr. Hafizullah Wali Rahimi said he appreciated the long-term support and constructive assistance of South Korea in several different fields in Afghanistan, especially the growth of sport and the valuable services of Min Sin-hak – Korean head coach of Afghanistan's national taekwondo team.

Dr. Rahimi called for the expansion of relations between the sports institutions of the two countries and the continuous cooperation and further support of South Korea in Afghanistan's sports sector.

South Korea's Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mr. Choi Tae-ho, spoke of the friendship between the two countries and praised the efforts of the National Olympic Committee in growing sport throughout the provinces. He was particularly impressed with the achievements and efforts of the Afghanistan Taekwondo Federation, and pledged to play his part in strengthening ties between the two National Olympic Committees of the two countries.

Dr. Younus Popalzay, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, thanked South Korea for their constant support of Afghanistan sport and, in particular, the gymnasium reconstruction for the Taekwondo Federation.

Dr. Popalzay called for the signing of an agreement between the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee and Korean Sport and Olympic Committee to strengthen cooperation and communication between the two sports organisations.

Dr. Najibullah Sikandar, President of Afghanistan Taekwondo Federation, also praised South Korea's constant aid to the Taekwondo Federation and called for further cooperation between South Korea and the Taekwondo Federation.

A cooperation agreement between the National Olympic Committee of the two countries is set to be signed in the near future with the assistance of the South Korean Ambassador.
