Manama, Bahrain, March 16, 2021: The President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, has sent a congratulatory message to Dr. Thomas Bach on his re-election as IOC President.
In a Facebook post on March 15, the BOC President said the re-election of the IOC President for a second term, through to 2025, reflected the confidence of the global Olympic family in his leadership and in his efforts to further elevate and develop the movement around the world.
HH Sheikh Khaled said: “On behalf of all members of the Bahrain Olympic Committee I congratulate you.
“I also assure you of our full support and confidence in your leadership of the Olympic Movement towards achieving more success and driving the Olympic Movement to a bright and sustainable future. We look forward to more cooperation in the coming years.”
His Highness said that President Bach had demonstrated remarkable leadership skills during his first eight-year tenure, not only through the Olympic reforms adopted in the Olympic Agenda 2020 but also in managing the Olympic movement during the coronavirus pandemic.
His Highness continued: “Under the inspiring leadership of the President of the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Movement is moving towards stability and solidarity. We express our appreciation for his significant contributions that will unite the way towards a more sustainable Olympic model and maintaining the status of the Olympic Games.”
The 67-year-old German lawyer and Olympic fencing champion became IOC President in 2013 and was re-elected for a second term at the 137th IOC Session on March 10.
