Hong Kong, China, March 10, 2021: The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China today announced a new format for its annual sports stars awards.

The Cathay Pacific 2019 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards presentation ceremony will be held and videoed in a new initiative at West Kowloon Cultural District on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, the 2019 awards scheduled for March 2020 was postponed and the 2020 awards was cancelled.

Not wanting to delay the awards presentation further, the SF&OC has decided to stage the awards with an innovative format.

Different from a standard online awards ceremony, this ceremony will integrate XR (extended reality) technology with reality combining the virtual and physical world in announcing the awardees.

Moreover, a theme of “The ARThletes” will be used to promote art pieces created jointly by local artists and athletes at the venue. The awards, therefore, will be a combination of sport, art and technology.

The six awards categories are:

*Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards to produce the Cathay Pacific Best of the Best Hong Kong Sports Stars Award

*Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards

*Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport

*Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event

*Hong Kong Most Promising Sports Stars Awards

*Hong Kong Sports Stars Breakthrough of the Year Awards.

Results of the 2019 awards from public voting, media and a judging panel were finalised in February 2020 and will be finally announced next month.
