Manila, Philippines, March 9, 2021: Double Asian Games golf champion Yuka Saso has won another prestigious title – Philippine Sportswriters’ Association Athlete of the Year for 2020.
Saso, 19, enjoyed a remarkable rookie season on the Japan Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour in 2020, winning two tournaments and finishing top of the money list with over 93 million yen (860,000 USD).
In a sporting year devastated by the pandemic, Saso stood out to claim eight top-10 finishes in 15 starts on the pro tour in Japan.
Her reward back home will be the 2020 Athlete of the Year award by the Philippine Sportswriters’ Association on its traditional Awards Night on March 27 at the TV5 Media Center, the Philippine Olympic Committee reports.
Saso won two gold medals at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018, women’s individual stroke play and women’s team. They were two of four gold medals won by the delegation.
