Singapore swim legend Yeo to join safe sport webinar

Singapore, March 8, 2021: A webinar to promote safe sport is being organised by the Women in Sport Committee of the Singapore National Olympic Council.

The 90-minute webinar will be held on Saturday, March 27 and will feature several high-profile speakers, presenters and panelists including the Chair of the SNOC Women in Sport Committee, Dr Teoh Chin Sim, Vice Chair Dr May Ooi and SEA Games swimming legend Joscelin Yeo.

“To ensure a safe and respectable environment in sport, we all have a role to play in educating our community and creating awareness,” the SNOC said in a statement to promote the webinar.

The webinar - entitled “My Person: The CoRE of Me in Safe Sport” - will underline the importance of the “CoRE of Me” in tackling and addressing safe sport, with CoRE referring to Courage, Respect and Equality.

“In recent years, news on harassment and abuse in sport have featured in the media. Whilst women and girls are encouraged to participate at every level, it is paramount to ensure their safety and well-being, as well as provide needful support and a framework to seek redress,” the statement adds.

The two main topics are: “Tackling Safe Sport” presented by Jayanthi Kuru-Utampala, Chair, Sexual Harassment and Abuse Prevention Complaints Committee, Women’s Committee, NOC Sri Lanka; and “My Journey, My Story” presented by Eileen Chai, professional violinist and former elite national gymnast, hurdler and diver.

A panel discussion will follow in which the two presenters will be joined by Azhar Yusof, Director of CoachSG at Sport Singapore, and by former swimmer Joscelin Yeo.

The webinar will run from 2pm to 3.30pm.
