Phnom Penh, Cambodia, December 23, 2020: The organising committee of the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia in 2023 (CAMSOC) has identified a specific date early next year for the 14 committees to switch into full preparatory mode.
Speaking after the most recent meeting of CAMSOC, Secretary General Vath Chamroeun said the 14 committees would begin their intensive work from January 11, 2021 – over two years before the SEA Games are set to run in Phnom Penh from May 5-16, 2023.
“2021 will be the first full year of preparing for the 32nd SEA Games and for the 12th ASEAN Para Games,” said Vath.
“We have a clear plan to organise the training programmes of the national athletes so that the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games in 2023 will be a big success.
“The 14 technical committees of CAMSOC will start working from January 11, 2021 on their detailed plans for the two events. From this point on, all the committees will work actively to make sure that all aspects of organisation, including national team training, will run smoothly in 2021 and 2022.”
The CAMSOC and National Olympic Committee of Cambodia Secretary-General added that the 14 technical committees thoroughly understood their roles and responsibilities within the organising committee – as outlined by the NOC President and CAMSOC Vice President, Minister of Tourism Dr Thong Khon.
The meeting also discussed office working procedures due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The meeting was held on Tuesday, December 22 after a short break following a new outbreak of Covid-19.
