Sri Lanka NOC thanks OCA for OlympAsia funding

Colombo, Sri Lanka, December 18, 2020: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka has opened its Hemasiri Fernando Auditorium – thanks to a major financial contribution from the Olympic Council of Asia.

The OCA awarded USD 100,000 to NOC Sri Lanka under its OlympAsia Project – part of the OCA’s Continental Programme to distribute International Olympic Committee revenue through its Olympic Solidarity division.

The newly refurbished auditorium, named in honour of the former NOC President and current OCA Honorary Vice President, was opened on December 14 by the NOC President Suresh Subramaniam and Secretary General Maxwell de Silva.

In a Facebook post, the NOC said: “The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka's auditorium is fully modernized and refurbished with high-end technical facilities.

“NOC Sri Lanka is grateful to the Olympic Council of Asia who funded USD 100,000 under the OlympAsia Project. The remaining expenditures were covered by both the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka and Mr. Suresh Subramaniam, the President of NOC Sri Lanka - THANK YOU!

“This has been officially reopened on December 14, 2020. The auditorium shall be open for public reservation soon.”

The Hemasiri Fernando Auditorium can accommodate 110 people.

The OCA’s OlympAsia contribution enabled the NOC to begin the renovations with confidence they could meet the costs.
