Ramallah, Palestine, December 14, 2020: The President of the Palestine Olympic Committee, Maj. Gen. Jibril Rajoub, met with the Iraqi Minister of Youth and Sports, Adnan Darjal, last Thursday, December 10 in Baghdad to discuss ways to forge a closer sporting relationship.
The Palestine NOC President updated the Iraqi Sports Minister on the ground situation facing athletes in Palestine and the programmes being carried out by the NOC to promote the Palestinian youth and sports sector, as well as the challenges facing the development of sport in Palestine.
Maj. Gen. Rajoub said sport was one of the most prominent ways to raise the profile of the Palestine national identity, and a platform to communicate the message of the Palestinian people to the rest of the world. He added that Palestine could benefit from Iraqi experiences in developing the youth and sports sector in the country.
Both parties discussed issues related to the youth and sports sector, ways to implement projects and activities, and the exchange of youth delegations.
Iraqi Sports Minister Darjal, in turn, said he was fully ready to cooperate with Palestine, either by sending Iraqi experts and youth and sports delegations to Palestine, as well as inviting Palestinian counterparts to his country.
The Palestine Ambassador to Iraq as well as the Palestinian Consul General in Erbil were also present at the meeting.
