Kazakhstan’s Sabina Altynbekova joins volleyball’s 1 million club

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 10, 2020: Kazakhstan’s Sabina Altynbekova has become the seventh volleyball player in the world to join the 1 Million Followers Club on Instagram, the FIVB reports.

Five of the seven members of volleyball’s 1M Club are from Asia, showing the popularity of both the women’s and men’s game around the continent.

At the age of 18 in 2014, Sabina represented her country at the Asian Junior Under 19 Women’s Volleyball Championship in Taipei and immediately became an internet celebrity.

Now 24, the 1.82-metre outside hitter continues to share photos of her adventures on and off the court with her 1.1 million followers.

The Aktobe-born Kazakhstani joins Saeid Marouf and Seyed Mousavi of Iran, Alyssa Valdez of the Philippines, Bruno Rezende and Jaqueline Carvalho of Brazil and Pleumjit Thinkaow of Thailand as the most followed volleyball players on Instagram.

Proof of her enduring stardom comes in the way of posts which have seen her pictured with celebrities like Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma and former Barcelona and Real Madrid football star Luis Figo of Portugal.
