Mongolia’s Olympic torch relay reaches southern-most border point

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, December 10, 2020: Mongolia Olympic Committee’s very own Olympic Torch Relay dedicated to Tokyo 2020 has reached a significant landmark in the country.

A special delegation from Mongolia NOC – including representatives from the Mongolian Border Defence Authority, the Embassy of Japan and the “Athens” District Olympic Council, headed by Tsendsuren Sandui, NOC Executive Board member and President of the Mongolian Triathlon Federation – reached Orvog Gashuun Ovoo, the southern-most point of the Mongolian border line situated in South Gobi Desert province.

The Olympic Torch dedicated to next year’s Tokyo Olympic Games was carried by female runner D. Urandelger and the national flag was raised solemnly at the top of the sacred border hill, symbolizing good luck for Team Mongolia.

The next destination on the Mongolian Olympic Torch Relay is the Mongol Shariin Davaa, the most northerly point of the 8,252 km-long Mongolian border located in Khuvsgul province.
