New Delhi, India, December 2, 2020: India’s ace wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sangeeta Phogat tied the knot last Thursday, November 26, in a small ceremony amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple took to their respective social media accounts to share posts of their marriage ceremony. Sangeeta hash-tagged all the images with the wedding hashtag ‘SanRang’ which is a mix of the couple’s names.

Bajrang, the world number two in 65kg and 2018 Asian Games gold medallist, posted on Facebook: “Today I have chosen my life partner and brought her to my home from her house. Still feel like I’ve found another family. Going to start this new chapter of life. I am happy and a little bit restless. It’s time to face this exam guys. Thank you for your love and blessings.”

Sangeeta is the sister of ‘Dangal’ fame (the movie that is based on their lives) wrestlers Babita and Geeta Phogat. She wrote on Instagram: “You complete me. Soulmate for life. A new chapter of life would be full of love and happiness.”

The pair will have to put their honeymoon on hold. On the same day he got married, Bajrang got the news that he had been approved for a one-month training camp in Michigan, USA, from December 4 to January 3 and is also expected to take part in a competition in Texas on December 18. He will travel to the USA with his coach Emzarios Bentinidis.

Bajrang, who also won a silver medal at the Incheon Asian Games in 2014, earned a quota place for Tokyo 2020 at the 2019 World Championships.
