Kathmandu, Nepal, November 30, 2020: The Third National Sports Forum organised by the Nepal Olympic Committee was successfully concluded on Sunday, November 29.
In his opening address, Hon. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, President of the Nepal Olympic Committee, said the forum would play an important role in bringing Olympic values to the Nepali public.
“The forum will play a role in understanding the importance of the Olympic campaign and how to benefit Nepali society as well as make sports uniform and effective,” Shrestha said.
Among the participants at the online forum were International Olympic Committee Vice President Ng Ser Miang of Singapore and Sri Lanka National Olympic Committee Secretary General Maxwell de Silva and NOC member Professor B.L.H. Perera.
Mr. Ng said: “The sports sector has to play the highest role to raise awareness about the environment which is an important issue for world sports.”
Professor Perera submitted a presentation on ‘Olympic Values and Recognition’ and highlighted the importance of running a school-level programme to raise awareness of the Olympic movement.
Nepal NOC Secretary General Nilendra Raj Shrestha said the forum would play an important role in making the Olympic campaign meaningful and developing a strong brotherhood between sports federations.
The Chief Guest at the forum was the Minister of Civil Aviation and Culture, Yogesh Bhattarai. Also present was National Sports Council Member Secretary Ramesh Silwal.
The forum ended with the awarding of appreciation letters to all 13 federations which won gold medals at the 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu and Pokhara, held last December.
