Phnom Penh, Cambodia, November 29, 2020: Six years after making Asian Games history, Cambodia’s national hero Sorn Seavmey is still earning the accolades.

The 25-year-old taekwondo star has been appointed brand ambassador for Canadia Bank Plc. in a move that coincides with the bank’s 30th anniversary.

“I am honoured and proud to be the ambassador of Canadia, the big bank in the kingdom of Cambodia. Proud to be chosen as Brand Ambassador for Canadia Bank,” she wrote in a Facebook announcement.

In return, Canadia Bank says “we are delighted to sponsor our Olympic athlete Ms. Sorn Seavmey.”

The move is further recognition of the achievements of Seavmey, who made history at Incheon 2014 by winning Cambodia’s first ever Asian Games gold medal – in women’s middleweight (-73kg) taekwondo.

She later went on to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio 2016, establishing herself as one of the greatest athletes in the kingdom’s sporting history.

Since then she has been followed on to the top tier of the Asian Games podium by two other athletes at Jakarta-Palembang 2018, taking Cambodia’s golden tally to three.
