Oman Olympic Committee holds seminar on advancing women’s sports

Muscat, Oman, November 29, 2020: The Oman Committee for Women’s Sport at the Oman Olympic Committee held a seminar last Monday, November 23, on ‘Developing women’s sports in the Sultanate’.

The one-day seminar to develop effective strategic programmes and plans to advance women’s sports in the Sultanate was chaired by Sana bint Hamad Al Busaidiya, head of the Oman Committee for Women’s Sport.

Also in attendance were Naela bint Hamad Al Busaidiua, Chair of the Omani Committee for Deaf Sports, and Her Excellency Saada bint Salem Al Ismailia, Vice President of the Oman Committee for Women’s Sport, along with a number of other committee members and participants from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, sports associations, Omani coaches and athletes.

The discussion began with the topic on ‘Promoting Competitive Women’s Sports’ and ‘The Relationship between the Committee, Associations and Sports Clubs’.  Also discussed was the development of strategic plans that can be implemented in effective partnership between all the authorities and institutions concerned with sport in the Sultanate and the private sector.

The importance of women as members in sports federations and committees was also a topic of discussion with emphasis being placed on working together to increase women’s participation in Gulf, Arab and international competitions.

Women’s involvement in sports media and communication and in the management and organisation of sports events were also discussed.
