Dubai, United Arab Emirates, November 26, 2020: The United Arab Emirates Olympic Committee’s Technical Committee has urged all sports federations to submit blueprints for the next four years with a focus on achieving results at national and international levels.
The call came at a ZOOM meeting of the UAE Olympic Technical Committee earlier this week, chaired by HE Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Second Vice President of the Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Technical Committee.
The committee emphasised the importance of national sports federations putting in place plans and strategies to help elevate athletes to achieve results. This was based on the direction of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Olympic Committee.
A recommendation was also made by the Technical Committee to place extra focus on beach sports so as to benefit from the geographical nature of the Emirates.
The online meeting also discussed the first Gulf Junior Games to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates in 2022 – having been postponed by a year due to COVID-19 – and suggested that federations start to use these Games to develop young talent with an eye on the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal. The YOG was postponed from 2022 due to a crowded calendar.
The Technical Committee also acknowledged the great efforts made by the Emirate of Sharjah to support women’s sport.
