Palestine Athletic Federation shortlisted for World Athletics award

Monaco, November 17, 2020: The Palestine Athletic Federation is in the running to win the best federation award in the world after being nominated as Asia’s pick for the World Athletics Member Federation Award.

Palestine is among six nominees from around the world – Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, North America/Central America/Caribbean, South America – vying for the inaugural award to be presented at the World Athletics Awards 2020 to be held virtually on December 5.

The award was created to spotlight some of the inspirational efforts and to recognise Member Federations that have managed to deliver an uplifting athletics event, development event or other athletics achievement, in spite of the health and safety challenges it faced in 2020.

The Asian Athletics Association nominated Palestine from Asia. The Palestine Athletic Federation was among the first to host both Coaches Education and Certification System (CECS) Level 1 and Level 2 courses in an online format. The federation also conducted other online seminars during the various lockdown phases.

“We all know the difficulties that sport has faced during the pandemic but many of our Member Federations have risen to the challenge brilliantly and we wanted to acknowledge some of the exceptional work they have done to ensure that our sport continues to thrive in these very testing times,” World Athletics President Sebastian Coe said.

Each Area Association was asked to nominate two Member Federations. A vote by the World Athletics Executive Board selected the six finalists, one from each Area Association.

The other nominees are Athletics Kenya, Athletics New Zealand, Nicaraguan Athletics Federation, Peruvian Athletics Federation and Polish Athletics Association.
