Dushanbe, Tajikistan, November 2, 2020: The National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan held various events in the capital Dushanbe last week, promoting Olympic values among students under the Olympic Solidarity programme.
The Tajikistan Olympic Committee’s initiative, held in conjunction with the Department of Education and Science and the Department of Youth and Sports, targeted 10 educational institutions in the capital.
‘Education, Culture and Heritage’ was the theme of the Olympic Solidarity programme and it encouraged teenagers and young people to take up Olympic ideals based on the values of humanity, integrating, respect, and behaving fairly and honestly.
The teaching staff at the 10 educational institutions received educational materials on the Olympics. The Tajikistan NOC also donated sports equipment and stationery for out-of-school training and information sessions.
Famous athletes like boxer Mavzuna Chorieva, the first woman to win an Olympic medal for Tajikistan – bronze at the 2012 London Olympics – took part in the events and helped to organise sports and educational events. The athletes served as role models and provided information on Olympic values.
The Tajikistan NOC will continue this initiative of Olympic education in other parts of the country.
