OCA Hon. VP Rita Subowo becomes AVC President

Bangkok, Thailand, October 28, 2020: OCA Honorary Vice President Rita Subowo has been elected the new President of the Asian Volleyball Confederation.

The former President of the Indonesian Olympic Committee was elected AVC President by acclamation at the 23rd AVC General Assembly convened online on October 26.

Mrs Subowo’s term runs until 2023. A total of 55 national volleyball federations joined the online meeting, according to the AVC.

To mark the start of the Assembly, outgoing AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser delivered a welcome speech and described Mrs Subowo as a “good leader” who had worked hard for Asian volleyball.

Mrs Subowo praised Dr Saleh A. BIn Nasser, saying that he was an excellent leader as he had led Asian volleyball to reach new heights. 

In her speech on closing the 23rd General Assembly, Mrs Subowo said: “Thank you very much for trusting me to lead volleyball in Asia. The important thing is we have to maintain our unity and strengthen our solidarity because, in front of us, it’s not easy. But if we work together we can do it.”
