Manama, Bahrain, October 25, 2020: The Bahrain Olympic Committee is currently celebrating Olympic Day 2020 with a series of online activities and events held through social media platforms.

Olympic Day 2020 celebrations began on Saturday, October 24, and will continue until October 31.

On this occasion, His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, emphasised the NOC’s interest in celebrating Olympic Day saying it was an ideal opportunity to promote the Olympic Movement and encourage all groups of society to engage in sports activities.

“Despite the pandemic, it is not an obstacle for the Kingdom of Bahrain to celebrate the 2020 World Olympic Day. We will have a range of activities and programmes across social media platforms,” Sheikh Khalid said.

“With the participation of a selection of top stars and athletes, we will contribute to instilling Olympic values in the community and emphasise the importance of exercising.

“Olympic Day is more than just a sporting event. Olympic Day is an invitation to the whole world and an encouragement to all individuals, sports institutions, different citizens and residents to engage in physical and sports activity. We invite all groups of society to participate remotely and positively interact to achieve the goal of celebrating the founding of the Olympic Movement,” His Highness added.

Olympic Day is traditionally held on June 23 but the International Olympic Committee allows NOCs to select another date to mark the event.
