IOC President welcomes Erick Thohir to Olympic House

Lausanne, Switzerland, October 21, 2020: IOC President Thomas Bach welcomed Erick Thohir, IOC Member in Indonesia, to Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Mr Thohir is the State-Owned Enterprises Minister in the government of Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Executive Director of the government’s COVID-19 Response and Economic Recovery Committee. 

Together, they spoke about the situation and role of sport during the pandemic and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, as well as Indonesia’s candidature to host the Olympic Games in 2032.

Indonesia announced its intention to bid for the 2032 Olympic Games towards the end of the OCA’s 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang in 2018.

Mr Thohir, 50, was President of the Indonesian Olympic Committee from 2015 to 2019 and was the driving force behind the success of the 18th Asian Games 2018 as head of organising committee INASGOC.

He became an IOC Member in 2019.
