Singapore, October 19, 2020: Here’s your chance to compete against one of Asia’s biggest sports stars – Rio Olympic champion Joseph Schooling.
The Singaporean swimming icon, who became the state’s first Olympic champion when winning the men’s 100m butterfly at Rio in 2016, is leading a virtual swim meet in aid of charity.
The 25-year-old three-time Asian Games gold medalist made the announcement on his Facebook page, which is followed by over 950,000 sports fans.
“If you’ve always wondered how you will fare against me or some of our national swimmers, here’s your chance,” he says.
“A bunch of us are going to be taking part in this year’s Liberty SAFRA Swim For Hope. All you need to do is sign up for the virtual swim at http://bit.ly/s4h2020 and head to a pool of your choice and…swim.
“Log in the distance swam after each session and see how you compare against others on the leaderboard.
“You have from 17 October till 15 November to log your distance. I will give you a head start and only start logging my distance after a week. All proceeds raised from the Liberty SAFRA Swim For Hope will be donated to Autism Resource Centre, SAF Care Fund and the Singapore Swimming Association.
“Let’s make waves for better lives together.”
This will be the 10th edition of Liberty Insurance Singapore SAFRA Swim For Hope but the first to be held online.
