Palestine NOC calls for strengthening sporting ties with Russia

Ramallah, Palestine, October 14, 2020: A delegation from the Palestine Olympic Committee led by Secretary General Abdul Majeed Hajjah met the Russian Ambassador to Palestine, Gusha Boashidze, on Monday, October 12.

The Secretary General conveyed greetings from Major General Jibril Rajoub, President of the Palestine Olympic Committee, to the Russian Ambassador and congratulated Russia for discovering a vaccine for the COVID-19 virus.

Hajjah then called for sports cooperation to be strengthened between the Palestine Olympic Committee and the Russian Olympic Committee in the future.

The Russian Ambassador welcomed the Palestine delegation and was appreciative of the decision by Major General Rajoub to dedicate and use the Putin Foundation in Bethlehem as the first centre in Palestine where athletes can prepare for the Olympics and other international sporting events.

He said he would coordinate between Russian sports authorities and Palestinian counterparts to promote mutual cooperation in sports. The Russian Ambassador also expressed his willingness to foster a comprehensive cooperation agreement between the National Olympic Committees of both countries.

At the end of the meeting, the Palestine Olympic Committee Secretary General, on behalf of Major General Rajoub, presented the Russian Ambassador with a hologram of the Dome of the Rock.
