Yemen Olympic Committee holds two-day sports medicine programme

Sanaa, Yemen, October 12, 2020: The Yemen Olympic Committee held a two-day sports medicine course last week which was attended by 110 athletes and coaches from various national teams.

Mohamed Al-Hijri, Secretary General of the Yemen Olympic Committee, gave the opening address. He said athletes and coaches would benefit from the course, especially on the subject of sports injuries. The event was held in conjunction with the Yemeni Federation of Sports Medicine.

The course programme included theoretical and practical lectures conducted by two doctors. Dr. Hisham Al-Maalam spoke about sports injuries and healing while Dr. Bassem Al-Hubani focused on first aid.

Among the topics covered by Dr. Hisham were individual injuries, group injuries, the causes of them, cramps and muscle tightening, and about stress-related injuries. In the second lecture, Dr. Bassem explained how to provide first aid so as to save the life of an injured person with special focus on burns and bleeding.

Both lectures were followed by practical courses on the second day.

Also participating in the two-day course were Dr. Mohamed Al-Sarhei, Director of the Sports Medicine Centre and Secretary General of the Federation of Sports Medicine, and Dr. Mohamed Hajar, President of the Federation of Sports Medicine.
